Challenge 2018-2019

We have selected a large bonus project and several other projects in different sizes and styles of samplers for our annual challenge pieces. The goal is to offer something for everyone. Finish one of these projects by the September 2019 meeting and you will receive a gift! Additionally, since Vickie LoPiccolo Jennett of NeedleworkPress will be our Seminar teacher this year, we have selected three of her samplers as extra inspiration to get everyone ready for the Seminar. If you complete one of the three pieces before the April Seminar, you will receive a gift at the Seminar.

“Catharine Isabella Suliss” Needlework Press

Needlework Press tells us: "Born five days before Christmas in 1827, Catharine was 11 years old when she stitched her vibrant sampler. She died in Hillsburgh only eight years after finishing her needlework." The verse reads: "Good humor is the greatest charm that children can possess. It makes them happy and what’s more, it gives them power to bless." The model was stitched on 32 count hand dyed Straw linen from Weeks Dye Works with Weeks Dye Works threads in Bullfrog, Pea Coat, Liberty, Sweet Potato, Jay Bird, Curry, Cocoa, Havana, Skinny Dip, Begonia, Kudzu (2), and Loden. The stitch count is 165 x 345.

“Lucy K. Moore” NeedleworkPress

There are two versions of this sampler, one in Gentle Arts cotton, the other in Gentle Arts wool with a few Needlepoint Silks to replicate the antique. The first option of stitching this sampler with wool and silk gives the sampler more depth and dimension. Stitching the sampler with hand dyed cotton floss gives the sampler a similar but more muted look. The chart includes extensive history about Lucy, her family and her teacher. The model was stitched on 30 count hand-dyed Straw linen from Weeks Dye Works. The stitch count is 345w x 110h.
